Coleman Lake Special

Hook: 1X-long wet fly hook, such as Daiichi 1560, Tiemco 3761, Mustad 3906B, or Dai Riki 060

Thread: Black 12/0 or Black 6/0 or 8/0

Tail: Grizzly hackle fibers

Body: Gray wool dubbing (or heather -colored wool dubbing)

Wing: Hair from a fox squirrel's tail (or from the tail of a pine squirrel)

Hackle: Grizzly

Variation:

Hook: #12 wet or dry fly hook(I prefer wet)

Tail: Mallard feather extended 1 hook gap length

Body: Natural rabbit dubbing (sometimes I use gray squirrel)

Wing: White calf tail

Hackle: Olive hen

Notes:

It can be fished wet or dry. When fishing wet, if a fish rises and you want to cast to it, it will float for a while until your sinking line brings it down. The calf tail wing is very buoyant and drys out after every cast. It is a very versatile fly and trout love it. -JRS
