Submitting a pattern to the "wiki" database is fairly easy once you understand how a "wiki" works. A "wiki" is an interactive medium, designed to allow multiuser interface to allow additions and editing by all in a collaborative effort. "Wiki" code is the user defined code that allows users to enter material and format them as they see fit. It'll probably be a little frustrating at first, but it's very easy to understand once you get the hang of it.

Regarding Content:

Please do submit patterns, instructions, etc... but be aware that others may edit what you submit or add additional comments along the way. ANY INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! Inappropriate content, personal disputes that surface through the site, etc... are encouraged to be removed. DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL WITHOUT PERMISSION!!!

To post a pattern:

Click "edit" on the top of the main page. This will bring up a the page you were looking at along with any "wiki code". As a general format, try to keep patterns in alphabetical order.

Scroll down to where you want to insert the pattern.

You'll notice pattern titles typed in between square brackets. The square brackets are code telling the "wiki" software to link to another page. For instance, if I wanted to include a pattern for a hex nymph I would type Hex Nymph to code the front page to look for a sub page by that name. Spaces are important in "wiki" code so be sure to leave a blank line above and below what you insert.

Now head to the bottom of the page and click the "Save Page" button.

This saves the edits you've made to the main page. Now you'll need to create the page you've just linked to. Scroll down to the link you've created (it should be in red). Click on it. This will take you to a blank page. Here you'll insert the pattern picture, pattern name, "Pattern" info, "Submittal by" info, "Notes" etc...

Coding the "wiki" to look for a picture:

At the top of the page there's a button with a miniature picture on it. If you hold the mouse over this button a label called "embedded image" will come up. Click this button. This inserts code to look for a picture that will look like:

Simply highlight the word "Example" and type in a picture name- preferably one related to the fly name, but it could be anything. For the Hex Nymph example that would be:

Type in the rest of the pattern info, with a blank line left between information ("wiki code" for a return) and two between important segments (for example the "Submitted by..." and "Notes" sections.

Highlight the "Submitted by ..." info and click the button at the top of the page for italics (slanted I) lettering. Highlight the "pattern name" and "Notes" sections and click the button at the top of the page for bold (B) lettering. An alternative way, simply type in 3 apostrophes before and after text you want in Bold, 2 before and after text for italics.

For example, the page code for the "Beaded Minnow" pattern (aka a Mike Holt fly) appears as follows:

Bead Head minnow (aka- The Holt Fly)

Hook: size 4-6 streamer hook

Thread: Red

Head: gold bead

Body: None

Wing: Wing-n-Flash

Submitted by Mike Holt

Notes:

The Bead Head Minnow is a simple, quick and effective streamer. It only has one material (two colors), a hook and a bead. That's it. No tail, no body material, in fact, the hook shank is bare. Yet it catches a lot of fish for me. I've seen (and fished) variations of this fly tied with Krystal Flash or Flashabou for the wing - nothing works as well as the recommended wing material called Wing-n-Flash. The material used to be called Lite-Brite but is now marketed under the name Wing-n-Flash and is supplied by Wapsi. -Mike

**You'll notice that a URL link (outside of the "wiki" database) can be added by using a single set of [ ] brackets.

Now save the page by clicking on the "Save Page" button at the bottom of the page. Your page has now been uploaded to the "wiki" database.

Head back to the front page and click on your file. Now click on the photo link (in red). This will ask you to upload your photo from your computer, similar to finding a file with a windows explorer program. The file must be saved on your computer to upload- no web images.

When finished, click the main page link on the left and check to make sure your page edits are working correctly.
